I'm wanting to take Scooby in some in-hand classes this season but I really don't know what I can do with him.

Obviously I can do coloured but not too sure that he'll do very well in that because his markings aren't very even. I don't really know much about his breeding but think there might be some welsh in there somewhere? So partbred m&m is a possibility?

Don't really think there's anything else I can really do with him. Suggestions?:( Also I need help with turnout. I've only done a little bit of showing and most of it has been with a pure welsh and a TB. Obviously everything isn't turned out the same for all classes but i'm not sure which is the most correct way??

Hey,

Could he have a ago at hunter type? If he is chunky but not too chunky you could have a go at this. Or best turned out/ best condition.

I am with the same dilema as to whether to plait my youngster who is quite fine but has welsh in him :S I guess it doesn't matter too much if they are on the border lol and I love plaiting :P For in hand you only need a nice in hand bridle.

Your horse is gorgeous btw! I love coloureds and he has such a pretty face :)

Hope this helped a little :)

In coloured classes the horses markings are not judged, the only way they would effect placings is if they were to create the illusion that the horse has a conformational fault. In coloured classes you would turn out to type, do you have a side on pic of him? this would help to establish the type that he is. Therefore if he is a hunter type you would want to show him in a plain leather bridle, however if he retains finer tb type quality then a coloured browband would be required.
Then if he falls in a hunter, RH or hack section then you can show in those classes too. If he is PB welsh you would also have those classes to do.
So you may find yourself with 3 classes to do :) Do you have a side on, stood up pic preferably without tack on?

Really? I remember a few years ago I got pulled in lower than the one that won(which was lame behind) because Chubby's markings wern't as good as the winners  He is even on either side he just doesn't have a lot of black patches!

According to the CHAPS and BSPA rule books it is. This is affiliated, at unaffiliated some of the judging can be..ahem different. And the coloureds at work aren't marked indentical on either side and they have done well enough(champ at HOYS and RIHS the past two years..)

You can definatly do coloured classes. There is usually some fun sort of classes like handsome gelding etc that you could do. Bet he'll get great results, he's a real looker

same! With my roan, we were placed lower because the judge said that she couldn;t tell how roan he was when he was clipped

As i said this is under affliated rules. If you check either the BSPA or CHAPS rulebook there is a specific rule saying basically markings don't come into placings.

The thing with blue eyes really annoys me, I think they look lovely but it seems to be frowned upon.

My friend had a stunning Hunter type pony who was bred for showing and she sold him on as he had a blue eye, it was hardly noticeable either it wasnt like a proper wall eye. Seems such a shame, I love to see a blue eye!!!

It seems like its a bit of an old fashioned thing with blue eyes being frowned upon which seems to be dying out!!!

As it happens, the lady she sold him to (up in Scotland) decided to show him anyway and he was always coming out supreme champ, she's now showing him at countly level and he's doing great!!!

His markings being uneven should not and should never matter for showing, although some judges are idiots

locally it doesnt matter what he is really i would do part bred arab, part bred welsh coloured and riding club pony, you could do the same ridden as well although in riding club pony you will jump a small fence and i know he hasnt done much and you could also do an equitation class

there is also things like best turned out best condition and things like that you could take him in and when you get jumping more you could do workers with him

Yup, from those i would turn him out in a plain leather bridle, no velvet browband. I would trim his legs, pull and plait his mane and pull and bang his tail. For yourself i would wear a shirt and tie, tweed jacket, cream trousers and a navy beglar/riding hat.

with the trimming thing, it's being worked on - he's MAJORLY scared of scissors, clippers, pulling combs (everything really!) to the point where he shakes and runs backwards so he ends up almost sitting down:rolleyes:

also, forgot to add that he's not really ready for ridden classes yet, so will just be in hand for now :(
