So Bella came from sheffield, I mentioned in another post about a wart and a small pimple that I was concerned about - I have a 6 month loan and a date of 1st July by which to pay for her if I decide to keep her.
The vet was out treating Billy anyway sp I asked him to look her over and he confirmed that the warty looking thing on her chest and the small pimple are probably both sarcoids. The one on her chect has been there almost 5 years - I saw a picture of her when she was 1 months old and it hasn't changed since then.
My heart overtook my head somewhat when I went to see this girl, she was in a herd of 40 horses, hasn't had her feet done for months, hasn't been wormed etc, was very headshy etc but totally trusting in me.
She was going to a stud to breed from and they wanted her quick to cover this year! She's only 5 and not at all up to condition so what did I do? Bought her home!
My thoughts so far are to see how she's goes over the next few months with rebacking her and getting her out and about, watch these sarcoids to see if there is any change and then closer to the time, if she is everything I want in a horse (she currently is), offer £700 below the asking price to cover treating said sarcoids.
Either this or leave the sarcoids unless they show any sign of change whilst applying a very strict fly control regime (my vets reccommendation).
Or send her back and save myself the cost of keeping her ?
To give you an idea of her progress - She has been with me since late saturday afternoon. She knows her routine already! I can touch all over her face - she's a little wary with my OH so maybe a man problem somehwere but getting better already. She stands like a brick to groom, even with tractors etc roaring past in the yard. She comes when we call her already and was today trotting and canteriong around after my OH having a whale of a time!
She's a very sweet horse who doesn't know her size and isn't fazed by anything.
My first dealing with sarcoids came last month after 22 years of riding so to have another one now is a horrid coincidence!
What do you think?xx
