Ive had Lexus a month tommorow and I had him on antibiotics from the vet as he had conjunctivitis. This cleared up after 5 days of the antibiotics about 2 weeks ago.

He still has white snot and coughs in the mornings. He only coughs when he runs. But then when I bring him in and he is very excited snorting I hear no snot its very clear and he doesnt cough at all.

He was worse yesterday and the snot was yellow but I think this is because he had a vaccination.

I have emailed the previous owner asking if he was the same there as im using the same bed straw like she did. I might change him to shavings tommorow as he is moving stables now he is gelded. I do soak his hay everyday.

I think it is a dust allergy as the vet said he is very healthy and alert to be anything serious. Problem is at my place they have to come in at night untill summer which is usually may and sometimes stay in when it is to wet.

May try and persuade parents to get rubber mattings and I pay them back and change bedding.

Yeah does sound like he's got a bit of a dust allergy - a horse next door showed the same symptoms and then was absolutely fine once he got in a dust free place.
Rubber matting works well, or you could try dust extracted shavings, they tend to be a lot better than straw.

Sometimes it can be the environment that the horses are in... Max was at one yard and his breathing flared up big time, he was stabled in a very large dusty american barn on straw. It didn't have good ventilation and had lots of cobwebs. We moved to a new yard with a small american barn (6 stables), hardly any cobwebs and his stable is right by the door... his breathing instantly got better than it was at the old yard. He is on rubber mats and good quality straw and out for as long as possible in the day.

i wouldnt be too worried about it it may of been due to his jab or it could be the dust in the straw he should be fine and get over it easily enough, giving babies too many anti biotics can be bad for them later in life as their immune system doesnt strengthen its self the same

if you decide to put him on shavings wait until his wound from his castration has healed otherwise the shavings will stick to it
