View Full Version : What's the best dressage saddle?

I'm on the lookout! I love my Cliff Barnsby but it's a GP saddle and I have all this knee roll that I never use as I ride with long stirrups so it looks a bit silly really! I think it was Coloredred that mentioned in one of my picture posts that I would be better off with a dressage saddle? I think you are right!

Zeb is narrow with high withers and has a very bouncy action so I'm on the lookout for something that will obviously fit him as well as my CB saddle does but also will help secure my position in the saddle and keep my lower leg more secure. I don't want much really, just a saddle this will fix all my riding vices!

Ooohh and I'd best give a budget seeing as I'm not a millionaire! Prob be looking to spend about £400.

You can easily pick up a second hand Ideal Jessica for that price. They are super saddles. What size seat are you after? You can get them fitted with Flair too.

He's currently doing well in a narrow 17.5 although when I had it fitted the saddler said that it was on the borderline of being to long for him so perhaps a narrow 17inch would be better. I'm 5ft 1 and he's a finely built 14.2.

I definitely want it professionally fitted and would also like to part exchange my current one.

I can't remember if it was me or not :pmsl:

Ideal Jessica's like casper_cb says are supposed to be great saddles. I currently have a Wintec Isabell which is lovely to ride in, the stirrup bars are set slightly further back than some saddles which helps a lot to keep your lower leg in the right place.

I'm trying to start saving for an Ideal Roella (see my failing effort in my sig :shame: ) They are supposed to fit riders with narrow hips better as the tree has a narrow twist which is why i want one. Also ideals tend to fit Magic really well, even my last one was too narrow and the one before it was too wide the tree shape was still good for him.

Thanks Colouredred I shall start browsing! Wow the Roella sounds amazing but then I should think so at £1000! Maybe I should be aiming a but higher too, it is my 30th this year after all...:evilgrin:

Being that he is not a very common size you are mor elikely to be able to find a second hand saddle more cheaply, the ideal is a lovely saddle the Fylde Saddelry Dressage saddle is a copy of the ideal same tree and everything and probably cheaper if you could track down one of them

Black County saddles are by far my faveorite they are lovely saddles and fab to ride in although pricey, crown saddles are also very nice, the isabell werth is quite a nice cheaper saddle and being wintec you can change it,

Another vote for Wintec Isabell, I love mine, bought it last year for £500 brand new on equestrian clearance, and it fits my horse perfect!

I'd keep my eyes peeled for a used Albion, also... wonderful, wonderful saddles (although not sure you could find one for that price).
