I just need someone to tell me to shut up and love my pony and that he'll stay sound forever and ever and the laminitis won't come back and he'll be perfect and life will be great.

I don't know why people offer me free horses all the time. But they do.

I have two horses (in addition to Domino) I've been told are mine if I give the word.

The first is Jasmine (in the picture thread I posted a few days ago). I really love that mare. A lot. She's young and athletic and just oozes potential to me. And no one else really likes her so I pity her sorry, crazy self

The other is another of Domino's owner's horses. I don't know much about this horse. He was at school with the owner's daughter doing some big eventing from the sounds of things.

The thing about both of them is they're younger and I can't afford to have Domino up here if he's not going to be sound - it wouldn't be fair on him to have him cooped up inside and kept as a "riding" horse if he doesn't stay 100%. I want him to be able to live out if things went bad, and it doesn't seem feasible up here (from what I've seen as yet). And he's not getting any younger, I worry things will just go downhill and I'll be stuck up here with him with no options.

Please tell me it will all be okay and I can have my pony and he'll be fine and life will be cheery and then we can ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after? And I won't have any regrets if I turn down these other horses?

No one's pressing me to make a decision immediately, by the way. It's just stressing me a little in the back of my head. And... I'm confused.

You're confusing me!!

The way I see it is, you love Domino. You love Domino whether he is fat, thin, old or young. If you said goodbye to him, you might regret it for the rest of your life!

I certainly think if you let domino go now you will always think what if- these horses are domino substitutes ;)

I think you should take Domino. As you say, he's not getting any younger, SO MAKE THE MOST OF HIM WHILE YOU CAN! This is my policy of Vinny, I figure we don't have many years left of him being fit and sprightly, so I am enjoying it as much as I can.

I think if you take Domino you will look after him so well he won't have a chance to get laminitis, unless there's some reason why he's madly prone to it.

Take him!!! I've missed him :)

Gah...

Is there no chance that things would work out so that Domino could stay with your sister and perhaps you could take on one of the others to have at uni with you?

I think you have put so much love, time and effort into Domino that it would be a huge shame to lose him now - unless you feel that you would get more from one of the other horses? It is so difficult with horses. Since riding Mags I have had offers to loan/share a couple of other horses and I have never entertained them because I know what side my bread is buttered when it comes to Mags, I have a fabulous set up and I love him to bits. But sometimes when it has been a trek up to his yard, or I have been struggling with him, I have felt a temptation to think about the others, but when it comes down to it, it is Mags I love and no matter the capabilities of any other horse, I don't think I could find a better horse than him and I am happy with him. I also love Mags's owner and I know for sure that I will only stop having Mags as my 'main' horse when I buy my own, and I am in no rush to do that when I have such a wonderful boy to play with.

Sorry, I'm rambling. I think that what I am trying to get at is that maybe these other horses could potentially be 'better' or easier than Domino, and I guess you need to think about what you want. Sometimes the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence, but don't forget what you have on your own side. If something goes wrong and Domino can't be ridden anymore then other horses will come up for you. I would say give it a go.

Thanks guys. Just needed to hear it officially so I could boot them out of my head ;)

The horse I don't know is kinda made already which isn't fun for me. I like funny little things you have to work to figure out. Hence, Jazzy. Who I do love. But I think if it was meant to be it wouldn't conflict with the Dom-Dom.

No way he could stay at home with my sister for much longer in spite of everything - she's going to college next year so he's coming up eventually, it's kind of a "sooner or later" deal now.

Yay! Now I can be excited about my pony again :D

Haha sorry I'm such a spaz lately... lots going on methinks.

I think you'd made your decision before you posted but putting it down in writing made it clearer in your head! Am glad you can be excited again.
