My insurance is being renewed this year. Need to rethink Hansy's value. Any thoughts welcome.

I have some garlic bread if you'll take that? I'm not great when it comes to pricing fancy horses but I'd reckon about £12000 maybe? Or probably more. I could be well under there. Either way, a lot.

I'd say you'd be looking around 25-30k

Good FEI horses who can jump well tned to go with a high price, im certain if he added any more titles to his name, he could end up being worth quite a lot.

Two of the eventers here sold recently for 17k each, who were both youngers with top potential, so im certain Hanson will be worth a lot more!

I'd say £15-£20k, looking to the top end of this for insurance. It should be easy to justify, a search for horses with this kind of record and proven jumping/dressage ability should show that. He's a serious competition horse with that kind of jump.

at least £25,000, he's superb!

In Canada, perhaps the equivalent of £35,000, potentially more but horses like that are far out of my price range so I don't really know.

I never quite understand insurance.

Are you insuring for the price of Hanson so you can recover the money if you need to pts or he gets stolen? I have heard it is very difficult to recover the money of the price of the horse - not sure why.

valuation on him on the marker is at least 30K, without any problems. (or i can offer you half a cup of tea and farleys rusk right now for him LOL)

for insurance though- hmm tricky one as you dont want to over do the value and pay ££££ in premiums..... try online quotes with a few different valuations in......

I agree with BC and Amandaco - high end horses are still holding their prices and FEI puts ££ on. Value to sell £30K plus but that would put your premiums high.

I will raise Amandaco's offer by adding a ginger biscuit, but then I already told you at least a year ago that I was going to steal him anyway :D

Depends what you're insuring for. I insure for vets fees up to £5000 and cover should they cause an accident. I don't insure for the cost of the horse or loss of use as it puts the premiums up too high (and god forbid it should actually happen and should the horse die or need to be put to sleep the insurance companies often do their most to wangle out of paying anyway) The most I can insure for without putting premiums up is £5000, so I value my horses at £5000 or their purchase price should they have cost less than £5000.

(Got to say, I maxed Johns claim for his bone chips, claimed the full £5000 back. He then had to be PTS. I expected nothing back, NFU paid out the full £5000 for loss of animal withing 2 weeks of the claim being submited. In his case it would have been worth me paying the higher premium and insuring him for his actual price, but I never EVER expected to lose him so soon or so young, he was 6. THANK YOU NFU!) In total for John in the space of 7 months I claimed back £13,500. Definatly worth the £300 premium!
