(This is a long one sorry!)
For those who dont know, my saddle that i bought when i got my horse no longer fits, and ive found its slightly twisted to the right which has made my horse a little uneven (even though i had it fitted, they mustve sold me a dodgy saddle :rant: ).

I have tried numerous 2nd hand saddles which have slipped forward and to the side because of his uneven-ness.

I got a master saddler out and he showed me a new Ideal saddle which with a bit of tweeking here and there should've fitted but didnt, he added balance strap and point straps which stopped it going forward up his shoulder but the saddle still tipped to the side, despite him padding out one side to make it fit correctly. So he refused to sell me the saddle as it was very expensive and wasnt a perfect fit. He came back today with a couple of wintecs but they were no good and he cant help me anymore.

Turns out my horse is just a ridiculous shape for fitting saddles, im now thinking ill get a 2nd hand one and get my other saddler to do the various adjustments, as nothing is going to fit perfectly at the moment its a waste of money getting a new saddle.

So to the point of this post...Ive seen one on ebay thats quite cheap and its like one i borrowed but never got anyone to check it, but to my untrained eye it looked alright. Is it a risk getting one off ebay?? I suppose if its not right i can always put it back on ebay or part exchange it.

Hmmm... at the moment im riding in my friends dressage saddle which isnt the most perfect fit but my horse goes so well in it! I think its because its not restricting his shoulder.

Anyway sorry for rambling about saddles again!

:confused::confused:
Your thoughts please....

i would sugesst a treeless saddle off e bay as that will allow his back to even up as another saddle right now might make more problems, then when his back has built up evenly you could go back to a treed saddle if you prefer them. make sure you buy the saddle with the correct pad underneath for that saddle tho.

I bought mine off eBay, used but as new, and came to me in perfect condition - nothing wrong with it all.

So long as you are very selective and ensure the person your buying off has positive feedback I don't see the problem

Nothing wrong with buying off there, you can always sell it on or part exchange it for another at a shop etc.

If it doesn't fit you can always put it back on ebay, as suggested before have you tried a treeess?

I got mine off ebay, its a semi treeless so flexes at the front but still has full spine clearance. Got it for £150 and its gorgeous leather so a real bargain!

i bought two off ebay before one was a thorowgood it was fab, kept it a year then put it back on ebay and got £10 more than what i paid for it. the other i bought was new but didnt have a make on it and it was crap, the stitching was lopsided and splitting the stirrup guards were rusty, i emailed the seller and she said it was an econamy saddle, the description didnt say this, and it didnt say that the saddle was in rubbish condition, just be careful what you buy!!!

I bought my wintec from ebay and its perfect. Saddler comes twice a year to fit it and it's always fine (sometimes needs a change of gullet or re-flocking. But they are really happy with it)

I have a friend who tried every saddle under the sun for his horse but nothing fitted and nothing could be tweeked to fit, so he had to get a made to measure. Very expensive but its been worth its money as no back problems.
