mad horse 3 knows what a horse looks like
Default Loose ring curved bit

Had a bit of a breakthrough tonight with Red, and borrowed my friends grackle and loose ring snaffle and it worked WONDERS

I'm going to borrow hers for a week or so check it wasnt just a one-off, but her snaffle is a 'special' one.

She doesnt know what make it is, or where its from as her Aunt had a clear out and gave her a lot of stuff, including this bit.

It's a loose ring snaffle, but its quite curved and shaped, so is good for a horse that leans etc.

I cant find it anywhere online

Any ideas what it might be?

It isn't a Myler comfort snaffle is it?

I can't think of any other bits with a curved mouthpiece

It is called a John Patterson or JP snaffle, and they used to cost less than a tenner last time I bought one which was about 8 years ago! *** edited **would you believe you can buy them from Amazon for 9.49!. There are tack shops eg Derby house offering Korsteel ones for 17.99.***

I don't buy them now because I use Neue Schule which are considerably more expensive but are amazing bits.

Neue Schule do a curved snaffle called a Demi Anky and the arms of their trans link snaffle, which has a central lozenge, are also curved and work well for sensitive horses .

The curved arms of the snaffle emliminates the nutcracker action of the single jointed snaffle so the bit does not touch the palate when activated.
