Some of you may know I hate hacking on roads. The roads near the farm are very quiet so that's not so bad but to get anywhere we need to go on the main road. It's quite busy and has lots of random vehicles (tractors, vans, lorries, motorbikes, grannies on mobility scooters) whizzing up and down. Luckily, the drivers are generally very good because it's quite a horsey area.
The weather was nice this morning and I didn't feel like schooling. Nobody else was at the yard to hack with so I bit the bullet and went on my own. My plan was to go to the end of the road (quiet road) and back then down the massively steep road (also quiet but I would need to get off to walk down it's *that* steep!) and back up again. We walked to the end of the first road and got to the main road where we usually turn around when we're on our own. God knows what came over me but I pushed her on and we were on the main road!! Without a chaperone!! She was absolutely brilliant
We saw kids playing overhead in a playground, motorbikes, biiig flatbed lorries (I turned her off the road so she could see them. Did she spook? No. She wanted to chase them ), scary rocks on the side of the road , prams, roadworks, skips etc. The most ridiculous bit was when we turned off the main road to go up the hill and the railway works were going on. It sounded like someone was blasting out a sound effects cd!! Angle grinders, pneumatic drills, even a dog decided to chirp up! Did it scare the pony? No. She had seen a butterfly in a hedge she wanted to inspect
The only time she spooked was when we were 2mins from home and some guys were high up on some scaffolding. She couldn't see them but is always wary of scaffolding because that's where the goblins live. She was being very good and just keeping an eye on it then the pillocks up the scaffolding drilled into the wall and sent loads of plaster flying down in front of us. All she did was spin around fairly slowly. Didn't try to run off or anything. Was just a momentary 'the sky is falling!' moment. I shouted up at them to stop while we got past and she walked past no problem. Poor thing!
So yey!! Took about 45mins altogether. I'm like this --> Can't wait til we can venture further afield!!
There really is, it's just a shame we have to do so much road work to get there! Road work will be good for her though. Get her used to lots etc. You can back me up on just how steep Gorsey Brow is!! (the one Olwyn's is on)
Yep gorsey brow is steep! I had an old knackerd VW Polo once and decided to go up there. Didnt think i was going to make it.... kept on having to go down a gear and the car was making a horrendous noise.
What about the little bit of off road riding down B'bottom road? the one that brings you out on to Hattersley?

Thanks everyone! I really think it is the weather! Can't wait to go exploring!
Bex - I've never been down there but I think I know where you mean. I'm going to go and explore tomorrow Do you remember whereaboluts you come off the main road to get to that? Is it the little road down the side of the station?
