Default what to feed show shetland please

trying to get an idea on what to feed my show shetland more for end of year and when he comes in for shows.need something to help prone to lami as he is a Shetland that likes his grass and no it would be impossible to reduce field size. Also i would like something to help with coat shine.i've heard of top spec and stuff but theres that much on the market i dont know where to start.was thinking to mix abit of speedy beet with some mix.Anyone with any ideas?i wasnt sure where to post it as its to do with showing but food as well.thanks for reading my ramblings!!!!

Depends on his current condition really. I wouldnt want to feed up a shetland...thats just asking for trouble. Grooming and rugging can produce just as good a shine on a coat IMO.
I have an A who i show and no amount of coming last or further down the line will persuade me to feed her up like the others that come in 1st, 2nd etc! I treasure my girly's health and well-being much more than a red rosette and some of them are so fat that they ripple, its a small miracle they arent crippled with laminitus!
I would feed small amounts speedy beet, alpha a oil and either a topspec or baileys outshine but dont over do it.

I agree with Xena. I wouldnt be feeding him much if anything at all, certainly no mixes. If he is at a good weight now, give him a little bit of soya oil which will help to add shine. If he needs actual weight adding, then you can feed more oil or a low to medium calorie level mix.

I wouldnt give him anything from the alpha range though as it has a lot of oil in anyway and a lot of calories. Feeding something like hifi lite would be much better. You can still add on 'condition' with this, it just needs feeding right.

Speedibeet would be fine, but as it is a fibre there isnt much need to feed two different things. You can wet down Hifi with just water or oil without needing to add Speedibeet.
In reverse, you can just feed Speedibeet, however between the two i'd actually feed Fibrebeet as it contains about 5% more than Speedi and has less megajoules of energy per kg.
