chance encounter knows what a horse looks like
Default What would you do, people going through my field?

As some have read we have moved our stables but have kept on our field at the livery we have been at for seven years.

This field has always been solely mine for my ponies and we have now got a contract with the YO to say that it is our field and agreed a price. However one of the liveries has been going through our gate into a little paddock at the side to ride in. We werent bothered really but would have preferred if she had asked our permission to go into our paddock to go through. Now another livery wants to turn the little paddock into a menage which would mean any of the liveries could come into my field and walk through with their horses. We have said it isnt on as the field is ours to which we have an agreement for and nothing to do with the liveries. Im just a bit annoyed that they think it is ok to walk through without asking my permission. I just think it is common courtesy to do such a thing. Im going to have a word with the YO and tell him it isnt acceptable he probably knows nothing about it. I dont mind them riding in their obviously and he could make them another entrance to come in and out. What Im bothered about is Diggi he is such a tinker and very nosey, he could get out the gate. Do you think Im being unreasonable?

I don't think your being unreasonable.

Personally I would stick a chain and lock on the gate - that'll stop'em

Not at the minute but it could easily be sorted out. In all the years of me being there the paddock has never been used. I didnt mind the first livery using it as they have been there as long as me and I understand why she wants too but not all and sundry. There is plenty of places where they can ride. BCE never rode in there so I dont know why they want to now.

I did think about that but obviously I dont want people to think Im being a killjoy and not letting them ride in there. At the end of the day the paddock isnt mine but I do know the YO wont even know they are riding in there. He doesnt live on site and everyone does what they want really.

I wouldn't like it either, what if your horses were in there??? It could turn into a nightmare, one trying to get out whilst their trying to get in, or kicking the crap out of each other.

Thats the point Rhea they are going in during the day when my three ponies are in there. To be fair none of them come up to the gate anyhow when they go in and none of mine would dream of kicking they just dont do it. Id be more concerned they got out especially if Chance followed due to her illness. We watch her like a hawk. Its just the principal really and not even asking if it is ok. There is plenty of fields they can ride in, there is a great one down the bottom that nobody grazes in which is flat and BCE used to ride in the middle field which is fine as she has walked it, nobody grazes there either.

the fact that your ponies/horses dont bother the folks going thru your field is not the point, there is a first time for everything, and it only takes a first time for things to go horribly wrong, I would lock the gate and *** what everyone else thought of me, my horses safety would take precedence. As a compromise I would still let riders through when I am about but not when I am not there.
