Cool Making Your Own Rugs?

I don't mean waterproof, they would be hard! to start with but things like fleeces/saddlecloths/bandages......

Following on from Loonys post and jazzy items for horses and not just ponies.

There really should be be stuff for the bigger horses, even though I have a small pony hes in bigger horse rugs so he still can't fit into the petite pony range

All the things I have come acorss are SO expensive!

Gem made Saffy her own fleecey stable rug. That polkadot one. Thinks its really clever I'm no where near creative enough though!

Rugs are pretty easy, even the waterproof ones. All you need is a sewing machine, a binding foot, the fabric and filling, metal attachments and decent thread (gutterman do some ideal waxed and non waxed thread in a variety of weights). The most difficult part is the cutting, the sewing machine does the rest.
Years ago I made a selection of little rugs for my Saluki for the winter, I even made a little padded wide surcingle to keep his underneath warm to go with lol
Was going to make all of Raifes rugs but I just dont have the time to get them done before needed, next year I shall be better prepared lol

rubbish, they are easy, you and others should have more faith in themselves. You are far more capable than you realise I promise you that!
They cost a fraction of the retail price to make. Why dont you get yourself an old quilt or an old ripped stable/TO rug and cut out a mini rug, bind or stitch the edges and use the strapping to re fix the metal fixings to it, a cost free dry run so to speak, if it turns out ok get an account with a fabric supplier and make your own full size ones?
