Default How much can my 13.3 pony carry?

Hi and sorry if I didn't post on the right section.
I am meeting a potential person to part loan my 13.3 pony Haflinger x Anglo arab on friday but she just told me she weights 14stones.(around 90kg?)
I am 52kg for 160cm.(about 8 stones)
My pony is around 350kg and quite "chunky" as he looks more like a haflinger than a anglo arab.
Please could you tell me how much weight he could maximum carry as it seems to me than 14stones would be a bit too heavy? (only for hacking)

Thanks!

I would have thought although he could carry her, it is too much for a pony.good luck!

She may ride light!! Weight isn't everything and horses can carry more than you think. Give the pony the option to tell you. You will know if he's struggling

I personally think that's a bit heavy for a 13.3 - haflingers are very good weight carriers but you've got the lighter anglo arab in there. Also, if she is 14 stones then by the time you add saddle, boots, hat, jacket, you are probably looking at around 15 stones.

I agree with Louise, it's not all about weight, balance plays a bigger part in it than anything else.

Can we see a photo of the pony you are talking about?

At the end of the day an 10st beginner WILL ride/feel heavier for the horse than a 14st experienced rider who carries themselves well.

Lovely boy!! he looks pretty sturdy and stocky

Give her a chance..he will soon let you know..(and you will be able to see if she bounces!) ..a few hacks a week will be fine and she will probably lose weight with riding..so it may only be an issue for a short while..but going by the pic I would be pretty confident he would be fine

I think he looks a nice chunky lad so I would give it a try. Just pop her on and see how it goes
