Unhappy RIP Duchess

I was woken up this morning with a text from my friend at the yard I used to keep Saffy on. One of the other liveries, a 16yr old girl, had a lovely chestnut mare called Duchess. She used to be on the riding school but Liz (the girl) begged and begged the school owner to let her buy her. She gave in eventually.

I don't know any details as of yet but something happened at the weekend and Duchess broke her leg and had to be put down. I don't know whether it was in the field or whilst being ridden or what but it's made me sick to my stomach. Although the kids at the stables did get annoying from time to time, Liz was one of them who looked after her horse wonderfully. I know just what it's like for that to happen to your pride and joy after what happened with Rookie. I'd NEVER wish that experience on anyone, not even my worst enemy. I feel so so awful for Liz, I wish I could take the pain away for her.

Cheesy as it is, never take your horses for granted. One minute everything could be fine and the next..isn't even worth thinking about.

RIP Duchess, beautiful girl xxx

I work with Alice's brother, who owns Smokie, and he told me about this on Saturday I didn't know whether to do a post or not. I was so, so shocked when I heard. Obviously I've ridden her a lot, when she was on the riding school, and used to enjoy riding her. The farm took pictures of the horses years and years ago and put them in frames and sold them, and I bought one of Duchess, and she still sits in my bedroom next to my TV! I feel so sorry for Liz, and gutted about Duchess.

RIP xxx

Do you know what actually happened emmalou? I'm waiting for Liz (with Corrin) to get back to me but she's the slowest person ever to text. Usually takes a day or so.

No sorry I don't know either, I did ask him what happened, if it was in the field or ridden, and he said he didn't know. He's not horsey so I don't think he was really interested in details, but Liz was at their house after it happened. Will you get back to me when you know though?

If she's still not text by Wednesday, no doubt Jenny will tell me about it, and I'll let you know.

Ah right. God the poor girl. I'll let you know as soon as I hear if you don't hear before me.
