Kelza knows what a horse looks like
Default Your horses age

Would you be gutted if you found out your horse was older than you thought?

I've been looking into Sultan's family tree and have found his correct birthday. I don't know whether to be gutted he's 2 years older than what I was told or be chuffed that I know his correct date of birth, which is 20 days before mine!!!!!

Sounds silly but I feel I have lost 2 years!!! lol

2 years is nothing, I lost 10 with Sov!! lol...I do feel like I missed out with her though because I lost her so soon after finally getting her.

Sov was 26 according to her passport but the vet and previous owners confirmed her age as 35+ six weeks after buying her, later her first owner after her breeder gave me her date of birth and it was May 1972, 5 months before I was born.

I bought Ivan as a 16 year old. He turned out to be 30+

I'd only had him a short while when i found out, so i dont think it made any difference to how i thought of him. He acts like a baby though!

I bought Stan as a 9 year old but he had only just got a passport because he was imported from Holland. The vet confirmed that he was about 8. He is 14 now. If he was older than that it wouldn't matter one jot to me.

I'm having a hard enough time dealing with the fact my baby pony will be 7 in a few weeks! I think overall no it wouldn't matter, but I'd ask her for a very good explanation as to why she still behaves like a baby when she's asked to do something she doesn't want to do

I'd be quite annoyed because I didn't really want a horse in their teens, I wanted to have lots and lots of years riding left out of them. I get worried that Bailey's going old at 12 this year!! Although obviously he's not but 12 was the very highest I went up to when I was looking and even then I turned my nose up sometimes at the age.

I thought it was 1973?

When I went and tried Taran, I was told he was 9 years old. The second time I went up, I saw his passport which said he was 13 at the time. I then got incontact with the breeder who verified his age and his breeding - he is still reg. with the WPCS as a Stallion! Opps...

Yes I was gutted but I still bought him as he has had a relitively 'easy' life. Best buy I have ever made!
