Default Does anyone ride/school in Flexi reins?

Hi there, just wondering if anyone rides/schools in flexi reins? I quite like the concept behind them.

I'm fancying some and could do with some feedback before I take the plunge!

No flexi reins have a built in elastic part in the reins near to the bit to allow flexion and promote lightness! I think you're called flexi reins, just watch me of got the name wrong!

I ride in them occasionally. Icarus can sometime back off the bit, so i ride with them for a few weeks until he's happy to take a contact again, and then i take them off.

You can have problems of leaning on them, but as long as you watch they arent leaning on them they can be good.

I used them on my Warmbood as he was very sensitive. He worked well with them.

I think if you hold an elastic contact through your hands, it's unnecessary to have elastic in your reins. If a horse is leaning on your hand, even with elastic in your reins it can still lean to the extent of the elastic because it's your leg that needs to lift it off. Sorry I am not a fan

Oh just to add they are not permitted in dressage. ( I ate a rule book and keep splurting the rules lol)

This is an interesting post. As Icarus Girl says they could be used now and again in schooling sessions.

I tend to get tense in my shoulders which affects Zeb and I struggle to keep him in an outline.

I'm going to watch this post, might put them on my xmas list, I think they would help me more than they would Zeb!

Sorry to hijack post!

They just encourage the horse to lean -
