Default What do you wish you'd known..?

Before you bought your horse what do you wish you'd been told and prepared for? I was thinking this afternoon whilst grooming how much I've learnt over the last few months of owning my first horse, and how much more I have to look forward to, but I really do wish someone had prepared me for the amount of HAIR I was going to have to deal with! A bit of a daft thing, obviously, but I just had no idea how much white hair was going to line the universe once I got my own

What about everyone else? Could be a general thing about owning a horse, or something specific to yours that you wish the previous owner had told you, serious or a bit silly

On the more serious side, I would have liked to have known exactly what I was getting! Dougal's old owner made him out to be a green but very quiet, safe pony. He was neither and had done hardly any schooling or anything at all really. There is no way we would have bought him if we'd known what we were letting ourselves in for, he was totally unsuitable.

I would have also have liked to have known exactly how hard it is to keep a light coloured horse clean. Words do not describe the feeling when you go out to ride your horse and he is clarted head to toe in wet mud. Or grass stains.
Or sheep poo.

On buying Abbi, I wish someone had warned me how heartbreaking it would be to sell the foal born in our stable!

I wish I'd known how full of complete rubbish my yard owner/vinny's trainer/my ex boss is, and I wish I'd had the confidence in myself to break free a lot sooner and take my chances training Vinny properly myself while he was still young.
