Default What would you ride in?

Most you know I had a bad fall from my youngster, I ended up with multiple fractures in my lower back and pelvic area.

So now I am wondering what I should ride in when the time comes.

Ive never worn a body protector and im not convinced if I had worn one it would of prevented my injuries as they were all below where a BP would sit.

However I think I will be investing in one and like the look of the Racesafe 2010.

I am also wondering if I should spare no cash and buy a point 2 air jacket?

Vel has been in training since my accident and I dont anticipate further baby spooks but you never know.

Im also going to get a Heather Moffat seat saver as they have memory foam in them and I think it will help the end of my spine when im riding.

What would you do, BP, Point 2 or just ride in normal jacket?

Does anyone not wear a BP for a specific reason?

I have a racesafe 2010 and absolutely love it. I use it when jumping Zeb or if riding someone elses horse I dont know that well. For the most part it's a confidence giver because I dont really do anything risky (just like you weren't huh!!) as such but it makes me feel safe. I suppose that everyones perception of risky is different. If I'm honest the only thing that scares me is jumping, not riding on the road which is utterly ridiculous now that I think about it.

I also always ride in my Roekl gloves, hat and hi viz and unless it's boiling I try to have long sleeves too.

If I were you I'd get the lot, it would make me feel safer and Vel will only benefit from that sense of security. The only reason I don't where my body protector more is in the summer it's too hot and generally I don't feel like I need it. Might have to rethink that one...

Seatbelt? Like you see on those thellwell sketches

Have to say I like the look of the point 2 jackets, I imagine that if you wore one without BP you would still be better off than if you had nothing on.

Like catg I only wear my bp when jumping. I did buy shoulder protectors as well - makes me look an american football player.

I also looked at the Kan-teq BP but Clippi I simply didnt like them because of the shoulder pad thingys (which you cant take off)

Never really though the shoulders were a vunerable part of me when riding.

Do you not think we are getting overly wary? All this protection is new to me (apart from the hat of course) I mean where do you draw the line as far as protection goes when riding

I have a racesafe body protector and i love it i always wear it on qomix because hes being reschooled from racing and i havent had him that long im not sure if i push his buttons what hes capable of. So its always worn now. Id like to not wear it when the weathers nice because it is hot, but id rather be hot than injured. Deff get both if you have the funds to your mind will be at rest then.

If you're looking at getting a point 2 and the racesafe and you're planning on wearing them together it may be worth waiting a couple of months and buying the new point 2 which comes with the racesafe, they are one unit. It works out cheaper than buying them separately.

I have the race safe and I bought a point 2 this year. I don't notice either of them at all. I've always worn my back protector when schooling youngsters.

You can wear the point 2 without a back protector underneath, so if you're out hacking you can just wear the point 2. You just MUST NOT have it fitted tight, you have to be able to get both your fists between your rib cage and the point2. If you decide to get one, get it fitted, don't just buy over the internet. If you do it up too tight and it goes off it will crush the air out of you and may cause more problems.

The only reason it's pushed with the back protector is because it's not BETA approved, so if you go XC you must have a back protector underneath, also they can't advertise it as being as protective... blah blah blah.... legal tape stuff. But yes you can wear it without a back protector and it will still offer more protection than without.
