Smile I'd forgotten how much fun a ride could be!

Following on from IcarusGirl's post - remember two weeks ago I had a brilliant hack on Paddy, he was so good - well, last weekend we had another, just three of us, going a different way so I could learn another route. This one involved roads, tracks and crossing fields, with lots of gates to practice opening and closing. They were really, really awkward gates - the stiff kind that you need real muscles to open and close - and only one of the horses really understood what we were trying to do. Paddy, who is usually only too ready to walk through solid objects, just wouldn't walk up to them, especially to close them because he thought I was asking him to go back the way we'd come. Sam's little pony was the best, she was really good.
The thing was, it was all such a laugh. None of the horses was stupid, none of us got scraped off, we did actually improve toward the end of the ride and I spent much of my time collapsed on Paddy's neck helpless with giggles (it doesn't take much to amuse me).
It really was so much fun.

It's lovely when you have great hacks like that, many of my hacks with Anni and Sarah have been spent with all of us collapsing in fits of giggles on their necks. We have always said the places we take them and the things we do on our longer hacks we do have some pretty amazing horses!

Glad to hear you had another great hack Jill. We have one awkward spring loaded pedestrian gate to get through and it always slams shut on Chips bum which never bothers him....... probably from all his years in the starting stalls! My daughter & I are regularly doubled over with the giggles for all sorts of reasons & I'm sure that relaxes the horses even more

I was just thinking that this morning, Teej - normally if you're bending forward the horse thinks you're saying "go - go - go," but I'm sure they can tell the difference and feel the good vibes.

Sounds like fun... i wish i had someone to hack out with regularly... exploring on my own isn't as much fun as it could be with friends

Osci, i've got that issue now the girls have gone back to uni. Hutch happily rides out for hours but it's not the same as with the girls. Anni will once she is all fixed up again but I guess for now Jasper and I will have to go exploring alone with the ipod lol!
