Default February is not turning out as planned! *updated page 3*

I must've jinxed it the other day when I said Feb was going to be a brilliant month horse-wise.

The snow on Sunday meant I couldn't get the box of the yard and so Jasmine could not go to a show that I had been looking forward to for ages. Never mind, just one show, there'll be plenty more.

Or maybe not. A horse on the yard has been coughing a lot recently and has had a runny nose. The vet came out today and swabbed for strangles. The results come back on Monday so nobody is to leave the yard until then. Saffy's dressage is on Sunday If it *is* strangles I'll be gutted. Means months without leaving the yard.

I know I'm very lucky to have my horses and it wouldn't stop me enjoying them and spending lots of time with them, but competing is one of my reasons to live! I absolutely adore it and spend most of my time planning and getting excited about upcoming events. My friend's yard had strangles from Nov-Jan and I always said it would be an absolute nightmare.

Please keep your fingers crossed that it's just a runny nose!

oh god I hope its not strangles, we have a yard around the corner from us with it and they havent left the yard since beginning of january, my fingers and toes are crossed it is not, try not to thin the worst until the results come in, hard I know

I would feel the same I love competing and hacking and to have time off all that due to a strangles outbreak would make me feel the same

hopefully it's just a cough and snotty nose! its going around at the min, both mine have coughs and phlemy stuff coming out cause it's too cold to wet the hay without it freezing over night & some of it's quite dusty.

I know how awful it is though, they suspected monts to be a carrier about 5years ago & we were quarantined in a field a mile away from the yard for 3 months while they did all the swabs and tests. It was awful, he hated it (wont stay out 24/7 since, he just waits by gate all night) & that was when i was competing every other week & riding 6 days a week - it just destroys everything you work for!
