Default PC Easter Camp 2012!

PC Easter Camp, woopa!

The first time Dougal has been out and about since JULY last year [due to me being at uni.] I was expecting a hell of a lot of bucking/bolting/leaping, all his usual shenanigans, but he stunned everyone by being perfectly behaved! So proud of him. Had a really great time, it was fab being back again.

Only did 2 out of the 3 days as he isn’t massively fit at the moment [my mum hacks him out most days but doesn’t do any cantering/jumping with him] but had a really good time!

Weather was rotten, snow and hail galore and it was just FREEZING, but had a really good time.

Had flatwork in the morning of both days, and then jumping in the afternoon. Got some nice work out of him on the flat, worked him over poles which he aced and he was generally very good.

The first day in the afternoon we did some small grids but the filthy weather meant be couldn’t do much. Had a couple of stops but he was pretty good.

The second afternoon we did a bit of show jumping and a bit of working hunter. He was on fire, jumping brilliantly! However, did have a rather nasty fall off him. He over jumped a jump by an awful lot and I got pinged out of the saddle. I hit the ground pretty hard and twisted my ankle/landed heavy on it somehow on the way down. It was absolute agony but after some time out I managed to get back on and ease myself back in. Poor boy, wasn’t his fault in the slightest, he just has a very pingy jump and I’m very rusty. Moved onto the working hunter and though he was tiring a little he did some really nice jumping! Fell off again however. Went through a double and the first 2 times he put in 2 strides but the on the third attempt I was, stupidly, expecting 2 strides again but he did it in one and I had a rather pathetic fall off him and landed on my feet.

Hopped back on and we did a little course, he was great.

So yeah, enough jabbering, on with a few pics! Mum missed quite a bit of the action – including most of the flatwork and my first fall – due to the weather. Also, excuse my horrendous position, neither of us have done this much work/jumping since last summer!

^ Stylish we are not.

And a wee video of our antics.

My poor foot. Swelling has gone down quite a bit but it’s very difficult to walk on. I think it’s just a bad sprain but going to head in to the doctor’s just to be on the safe side. Such a shame because I’ve fallen off this horse so many times you wouldn’t believe it and only ever had a few bumps and bruises. And for once in his life he wasn’t even TRYING to get me off, he was just being honest.

^ My hideously ugly normal foot, just for the comparison, haha.

Sorry for the ridiculous amount of pictures!

Fantastic Photos. Such a good boy.

Your foot looks nasty. I had a foot like that from a fall from Gemma and she trod on it as I lay on my side. I was hobbling about for weeks. I hope yours gets better quicker than mine did.

Looks like you had a super time - great photos! I can totally sympathise with you about the foot, I had a stupid fall on friday which was totally my fault and Shadow was being completely genuine but I really bruised my coccyx and have been out of action since. Hope it heals up sharpish!

Your ankle looks awful, no offence!
You both look like you're loving it like normal. Must be nice to spend some time with him doing what you both do best!
