Default No, you're NOT looking after MY horse!!!!

Urrrghhhhh, rant!

I've been riding with my friend from down the street for years now, and ever since I've mentioned the fact that I'm going to be getting a horse soon, she's acting like she's entitled to almost share it!

I've been asked about 4 times now, "When you get your horse, you'll let me ride it won't you?", I kept saying "Well for the first few weeks no because I'll want it to settle down, so won't want to be chucking different riders on it all the time", and trying to think of every reason for her not to ride it because I'm too nice to say no! Eventually she pushes me and I say yes.

She's also said to me that she'll take me up to the farm a couple of times a week in exchange for a ride.. Erm, I'm happy to take the bus thanks! But of course I just said "Oh right", instead of "no"

And she's even had the cheek to say, "You'll want a break once a week to do your own thing won't you? I could come up and sort it out and ride it then", to which I said "No I won't, I might need a favour sometimes if I'm going somewhere but not every week", but apparently NOOOO I'll need a night off every week according to her! I have a ******* sharer for it already!

Whilst we were talking about this loan horse, (which might not be suitable by the way..), she messaged me saying, "You better let me look after yours Emma Louise Jones. **** Abbi. I'm first! haha." Obviously she's not meant to sound as pushy as she does, but

So I sent her one back, trying to keep it light so I don't offend her, saying, "none of you are looking after my horse! i've spent more than a year living off £10 a week just so i can buy one so i'll be the one looking after it!"

And she's said, "Aww, would you not let me ride it or anything? or look after it if you could'nt get down, or went on holiday? TIGHT BITCH. haha"

I feel like it's not actually going to be MY horse!! She said to me the other week, "You know when you get your own that I'm going to be coming up to the farm with you all the time"..

Oh dear! I can identify with this so much! When I got kissie I stupidly said my friend could ride her. But when she came I didn't want to share her and I had to tell her. I didn't think she has ever really forgiven me! Now I know it wouldn't have been a good idea, anyway because she is too much of a handful! lol

Of course you want your horse to yourself to have time to bond. Let your friend know that you will eventually let her ride him. But at first you want some time to yourself. It's not easy! Also at some point you will need help so don't burn your boats!

I think id agree with you!

I had someone like this when i stabled Spud nearer to the therapy center for 2 months. She suddenly always appeared when i was riding him over to use the arena. It was our private yard yet she insisted on coming up through the gate, and going around all the stables, sighing audibly and saying "I wish my pony didnt have laminitus so i could ride it" or she'd be constantly asking me to ride Spud or to let her 'borrow' him as he was in her village. Every time i heard "i want to jump on him hes really good" i swear i felt like wringing her neck after a while

She managed to blag a ride off someone else in the village and came chasing up behind me and Spud once on the cliffs when i was cantering him, i had the biggest scream fit at her ive ever done in my life

I'd politely tell her to fob off, it's going to be your horse. I have a feeling if you let her 'look after it' once, you will be heckled from then on! Keep her at an arms distance just incase you do need help some day, but be careful!

I've let her know that if I do need someone to go down one night because for some reason I can't, then I'll go straight to her, but I think she's expecting it to turn into some weekly thing!!

I'm hoping it'll be one of them things where the novelty will wear off after a while..

I can understand it because when I didn't think I had any chance of getting a horse in the recent future, I would've give anything to be able to go and ride someone's horse.. but I definately don't think I'd be acting like she is! I suppose she thinks she can get away with it since we've known eachother for about 14 years!

She probably doesn't even realise she is annoying you. As you said you've known one another for years and that she probably thinks you wouldn't mind her keep asking.

But i would tell her straight how it's going to be. If not there's a real chance she could annoy you to the point that there's a big argument and then you may well have lost a friend.

If she respects you at all then she'll understand why you are saying it to her, if not then **** her lol!!!!

You need to tell her straight. Otherwise you are going to have her bugging you when you do get your horse, and you'll always be looking over your shoulder.

God that girl sounds like an absolute nightmare!! I would be wringing her neck by now. I expect you would be FAR more willing to let her ride your horse if she wasn't so pushy and insistent. She should realise these things by now, how old is she?

I loathe pushy people, it's one thing that really gets to me.

Having said that, I do agree with Ness - don't burn your boats. There will be times when you will be very glad of a lift or maybe a day off (trust me).

If you get a yard without a toilet on site, would that help?

oh sound just like my Daughters friend, who ended up snapping our Bridle and taking a big chunk out of the saddle, and dropping the whole grooming kit is horse poop and not cleaning it off, After that she was never allowed near our pony again!!!
