chance encounter knows what a horse looks like
Default Decisions decisions!!! Went to look at new yard today.

Don't know what to do!!

Went to look at a new yard today. Its four private stables to rent as a block. Beautiful well built stables with fancy conifer trees and flower baskets, lol!! Floodlit menage, smaller sand school, wash room, off road hacking which is fantastic, cctv, 24 hour supervision, own paddocks, 24/7 turnout everything we would like. Its 15 miles from where we live but closer for BCE when she is at uni only 3.5 miles. From my work it is just over 9 miles.

We know we need more facilities for Diggi when he needs to be broken and we know that having more would help Darli a great deal too. BCE could ride every single day in the floodlit school instead of having to school on the road all the time and the ponies would be able to chill out on a hack rather than having to work. We also hope that it would help Chance to get back into work as well with having the sands school for her too and maybe we could get her into dressage as she is like a spring chicken at the minute and it seems very unfair that she is so well but we just don't have the facilities to help her.

So although I love being across the road from the stables we have to weigh up everything. The new yard has everything we wish for and more. I wouldnt worry about the horses as I know there is someone on site 24 hours so although they are further from home they would be fine. One other thing is that it is £30 per month cheaper than what we pay now for two stables, Diggi on grazing 24/7 and no facilities!!!!!!

I have been at the same yard for over six years so it is a big step to take. What would you do? Its all very well saying its nice to have them closer to home but what about all the facilities?

I would move personally. I have been in a dilemma about what to do with my horses, and the perfect thing for me would be a yard to rent, but one hasnt come up. Ive moved Uva on livery closer to home and still not happy with it, despite all the facilities!! I think if the yard is as good as it sounds it would be worth trying

It sounds like the move would be good for everyone Mandy. Even your bank balance! How does that work out cheaper with all the extras??!!!

The horses don't know they're only over the road from you at the moment, the only ones feeling that change would be you and BCE!

Ive always known I could get better facilities for what we pay at the minute but it was convenient when BCE was at school in the next village and whilst she wasnt driving but things change I suppose. She is more competitive now and needs the facilities more than she did a few years ago especially with Diggi.

Ive no idea why the lady only charges what she does. She has two separate stable blocks. One block she wants to rent out to one person and the other block is full livery clients. BCE is going back down to walk round the place with the owner and ask some questions. Of course it is going to cost more in petrol as we dont use any petrol whatsoever at the moment, when BCE is not at uni or at the weekend but it isnt that far really I suppose.

God its times like this I wish I had a crystal ball. I dont like change and we are really happy at the yard we have been here for over six years although there is a few things happening that havent been good which I cant say on here but it is to do with an arguement the YO had with an adjoining land owner and courts were involved.
