i am wandering how good my vets actually are..
my horse had a cough, and he was scoped (for a different reason) and it was found that it was inflamed and had a fair amount of mucus... so why did they put him on ventipulmin? isn't that to relax/open their air ways, although the vet said they were fine...
I am confused...is it right to give him ventipulmin, or should he be on something to get rid of the mucus?
I don't particuarly like them as vets, they aren't bad, but i just don't really like them...
when he was being scoped, when they were sticking the thin clear tube thing down, the nurse person couldn't find the right one and took about 5 mins... i would have thought that sort of thing shuold have been prepared, especially as we were an aranged appointment...
Am i being fussy?
The vets i REALLY want to vet my horse are the ones i did W/E with, but they are too far away.. if only the guy would come and do Barney for me, i would be SO much happier... hmm :/
Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you. You just gotta find the ones worth suffering for -- Bob Marley
i would imagine ventilpulmin if it does open the airways would help to clear mucus as surely it would help the mucus move and clear? maybe i dont know, i think its a pretty standard thing to give to anything with any kind of respiratory problem
if your unsure about something then ask about it, my vets are great i always ask them things and question what they are doing and it helps to put your mind at ease
As I said in a previous post, ventipulmin relaxes the airways, but even when relaxed, if a horse has mucus right at the back of their lungs they may not be able to shift it, hence where the Sputulosin comes in as it breaks the mucus up into little bits that are easier to shift.
Is your horse still coughing? I'd maybe get a 2nd opinion and see another vet
If you are not happy I would try and change. If they agree to come to you thats fine I wouldn't worry. I had a local vet they were brilliant but stopped doing horses the people who took over were coming from 20+ miles away and I didn't like them so am changing.
