MOSTONBROOK SANCTUARY EQUINE HOME OF REST |
NEWSWinter Feed Appeal Winter is upon us and we desparately need your help with our feed appeal. Stables Need Rebuilding Also we urgently need help to rebuild the stables and the roof alone will cost £3,000. Building materials are desperately needed: wood, nails, tools, roofing all will help us to rebuild our tumbled down buildings. Horse Show Our next horse show will be on 10th June 2007 and we are once again looking for sponsors, judges and helpers. Please do help us by supporting our show as your participation will help us to raise funds whilst you have fun. Please contact us if you would like details of our show and/or sponsorship details. Financial Problems This last year has been an eventful one with the sanctuary reaching an all time low and earlier this year we did think we would close. Our dear friends at NASSL did send us £250 worth of feed for Christmas and I thank the people who did send us a donation last year as your help does do a lot and we are really grateful. However, we were seriously in debt to the tune of £28,000 and we did what we said we would never do - took out a huge loan to pay off all our debts and buy in enough feed to get us through most of the winter. However, we still need to pay for vets fees, pony nuts and grain feed, etc. We have received less than £1,000 in donations in the last 12 months and it costs over £20,000 per year to feed and keep the animals we have so if we are to continue we urgently need help. Unfortunately for this year we can't take any more equines as we are very full and need homes for some small ponies and colts. Help Needed To Upgrade Sanctuary The Sanctuary is now quite shabby and we hope to upgrade it, but need help. We are looking for helpers who can muck out, mend fences, paint stables, clean yards, rebuild the old buildings, etc and hope that in the spring people will come to see us and hopefully help us with some work. If there is a builder out there who would help or if anyone could donate wood, nails, bricks, cement then we would be very grateful. Help Us with Donations and Fund Raising There are a number of ways in which money can be raised - coffee mornings, bingo evenings, car boot sales, sponsored dog walks, shows, raffles and many others. If you feel you can organise an event to help us raise much needed funds then please get in touch. We are grateful for any financial donation, no matter how small and can accept donations by cheque made payable to "Mostonbrook Sanctuary Equine Home of Rest" or directly into our bank account at any Lloyds TSB bank (Sort Code 776504, Account number 09871960, Mostonbrook Sanctuary, Cardigan Branch, Dyfed, west Wales). We are also grateful for any material donations that we receive and items we desparately need at present include: hay, straw, feed, pony nuts, wood, nails, hammers, fencing, new barn, new stables, mini digger or JCB, dumper truck, tractor, roller, rugs from 4ft to 5ft 9ins, wheel barrows, forks, spades, grooming brushes, buckets, and of course helpers. We need helpers both to help look after the animals with mucking out, etc and helpers to help us maintain and upgrade the sanctuary with painting, mending fences, digging, helping with building work, etc. We would like to thank all our supports for their donations, support and friendship which has helped to keep us going. Every Penny goes towards the animals in our care. We also have no paid staff here and rely on our helpers. Surprise Donkey In June 2003 we had a lovely surprise when a baby donkey was born with us. Unfortunately his mother rejected him at birth and we have had to bottle feed him. He now has a friend in Cheena, a coloured donkey with a blind eye, who treats him like her baby. Lost Income We have been dismayed with the news that WORKTWICE, the cartridge company that pay for used cartridges to help raise much needed funds, has gone in to voluntary liquidation. We, along with a lot of other small charities, now have to go to the receiver to try and obtain any money owed. We have, however, found another company to recycle cartridges so if you can help us by sending used cartridges then please get in touch and we will give you the new details. Equine Passports The new passports will cost this sanctuary hundreds of pounds and if we don’t pay up we could be heavily fined. The costs of obtaining passports is of course another expense on top of our existing necessary expenditure which we are already having problems finding. Therefore we desparately need donations. Thanks I would like to thank all of our wonderful supporters and friends. Postal List If you wish to be put on our postal list to receive news from the Sanctuary please send us your name and address. HELP US TO HELP THE HELPLESS AND GIVE HOPE TO THE HOPELESS Please note cheques should be made out to the "Mostonbrook Sanctuary Equine Home of Rest". I don’t know how but we will continue to help as many equines as we can and continue to care for the ones who are here with us, but we need your help to do this. |
